AGS Secures Major Solar Project in Usulután, El Salvador

Usulután, El Salvador – February 2, 2024 – AGS Agunsa has secured a significant contract with UDP Usulután, a subsidiary of two Spanish companies SEMI and ENERLAND, along with government developers, to construct a 23-megawatt photovoltaic plant in Usulután. The contract, signed by Carlos Banos, AGUNSA’s General Manager of Special and Project Cargo for Central America, marks a crucial step in enhancing the country’s clean energy production. The project, which commenced last week and is slated for completion in October, is set to generate clean energy for El Salvador, significantly contributing to the nation’s renewable energy goals.

The project involves a wide range of logistical services provided by AGS. These services include managing communications with ports and shipping lines, handling project and partial customs clearances, managing tax exemptions, and providing logistics consulting. Additionally, AGS will oversee the transportation of containers and special equipment, employing inspection teams to ensure the smooth execution of the project. In total, the project will involve the movement of approximately 100 containers and 30 air shipments, demonstrating the scale and complexity of the logistics involved.

This new venture is a testament to AGS’s growing influence and expertise in the renewable energy sector. The successful negotiation, which did not require a tender due to AGS’s proven track record with the client from a previous project, the Talnique Solar project, highlights the company’s capability to deliver high-quality service and efficient project management.

For AGS, this project is not only a significant business achievement but also a strategic opportunity to strengthen its position in the renewable energy industry. The successful execution of this project is expected to open up new business opportunities with both existing and potential clients, particularly within the Spanish EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) sector and the Salvadoran government.

The initiation of this solar project aligns with AGS’s commitment to supporting sustainable energy solutions and showcases their ability to handle complex logistics for large-scale projects. This development is a positive step towards a cleaner energy future for El Salvador, further solidifying AGS’s role as a leader in the logistics sector for renewable energy projects.
